Gabe Montenegro (Southern Miss) and Kelsey Richard (Northwestern State) combined for 4 hits, 4 runs scored and 4 runs batted in to lead Acadiana to a 10-1 win on Wednesday night.

Montenegro, the Player of the Game, played a significant role in the Cane Cutters jumping out to an early lead. After a Dan Lahare (ULL) sacrifice fly scored Logan Bottrell (New Mexico), Montenegro scored on an RBI single by Brady Bell (Nichols St) to put Acadiana up 2-0 after the first. Just an inning later, Montenegro would contribute a 2-run double that scored Richard & Bottrell to double the Cane Cutter lead and make it 4-0 after two innings. Richard would get in on the action in the fourth, when his RBI single plated Gavin Bougeois (ULL) to push the lead to 5-0. Texas would put a run on the board in the 6th, but Acadiana would put the game out of reach with a 5-run 8th inning that secured their fifth double-digit run total over their six game win streak. Montenegro, Richard and Bougeois would all score again in that frame, while pinch hitter Justin Damary (Minot St) would pick up an RBI walk before coming across to score as well. Richard’s Northwestern State teammate Evan Daigle picked up the win with 5 ⅓ strong innings that saw him give up just one run on 5 hits and 3 walks to go with 5 strikeouts.

Gabe and the rest of the Cane Cutters return to Fabacher Field tomorrow night for Nine Innings of Winnings Night, where prizes from local businesses will be raffled off every half inning.
