Win Streak Ends At Nine, Cutters Still in First

07/16/2017 10:40 PM -

Despite a 12-6 loss to the Victoria Generals that ended a nine game winning streak, the Cane Cutters are still in first place in the second half standings.

Handsome Monica earned Player of the Game honors after going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk an RBI and two runs scored.

Victoria jumped out to an 11-0 lead after sending 17 batters to the plate in the top of the second, but the Cane Cutters explosive offense was able to respond. The first dent in the lead was made in the bottom of the fourth, when sacrifice flies by Jesus Tovar (Northern Illinois) and Jonathan Artigues (Tulane) combined with a Trey Morgan (Southeastern Louisiana) RBI single to make the score 11-3. After scratching a run across in the fifth, the sixth inning gave Acadiana two more runs, highlighted by a Monica ( sac fly to cut the lead to 11-6. The scoring would conclude when Victoria pushed another run across in the top of the eighth.

The Cane Cutters will not be in action at Fabacher Field until July 25th, when they host the Victoria Generals on Star Wars Night. Make sure to come on out and join the Cane Cutters in welcoming a number of Star Wars characters to the park, and come out in costume to get in for free as well as the chance to win one of several prizes. Also remember your camera so that you can take pictures with any and all characters, which can then be submitted to social media for the chance to win a prize!

In the meantime, Handsome and the rest of the Cane Cutters will have a couple of days off before hitting the road to face the Texarkana Twins and Victoria Generals.
