Cane Cutters Bounce Back With 15-5 Win

07/20/2017 10:55 PM -

Acadiana has gotten their first win on their week long road trip with a 15-5 decision over the Texarkana Twins.

Jesus Tovar (Northern Illinois) earned Player of the Game honors for his 2-for-5 performance. Tovar would finish with a double, run scored and four runs batted in on the night to go along with a walk as he reached base in three out of his six plate appearances.

Jonathan Artigues (Tulane) continued to swing a hot bat, and broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth inning with an RBI single that scored Turner Francis (ULM). Jesus Tovar (Northern Illinois) would also score later in the fourth to push Acadian’s lead to 4-2 before Texarkana answered with three of their own in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead at 5-4. The Cane Cutters had a response of their own in the top of the fifth, in which they scored four times, highlighted by Tovar’s 2 RBI double that plated Trenton Trosclair (Southeastern Louisiana) and Daniel Lahare (ULL) to make the score 8-5 Acadiana. Another 2 run double, this one by Logan Bottrell (New Mexico) would push the Cutters lead to 10-5 in the sixth before Tovar struck again in the eighth with a two run single to make the score 12-5. Artigues would score later in the frame to give the Cutters a 13th run before they added two more in the top of the ninth to finish out the scoring and get the win for Adam Nelson (ULM)

Jesus and the rest of the Cane Cutters will look to make it two in a row tomorrow at 7pm when they take on the Victoria Generals. Acadiana will return home on Tuesday, July 25th when they host the Victoria Generals on Star Wars Night. Come on out next Tuesday in costume to join a number of Star Wars characters and receive free admittance to the park as well as the opportunity to win prizes throughout the game! Also make sure to remember your camera, as there will be a photography contest held on that date. We look forward to seeing you at Fabacher!
