Cane Cutters Earn 23rd Win with 18-8 Decision

07/26/2017 11:05 PM -

An 18-6 victory over the Victoria Generals on Wednesday night improved Acadiana’s season record to 23-20, including a 10-7 mark since the All-Star Break.

Brady Bell (Nichols St) earned Player of the Game for his 3-for-5 performance at the plate. By the end of the day, Bell finished a triple shy of the cycle after recording a solo home run in the fourth, 2-run double in the sixth and 2-run single in the seventh. His final stat line for the night was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, six runs batted in and a walk.

The Generals picked up a run in the top of the first, but a Logan Bottrell (New Mexico St) double and Turner Francis (ULM) single in the bottom of the frame tied the contest after one. The Cane Cutters took their first lead of the game in the second, when a Bottrell single scored Jesus Tovar (Northern Illinois) before they added an insurance run on a Gabe Montenegro (Southern Miss) sacrifice fly later in the inning. Acadiana would score in every inning through the seventh, highlighted by a four-run third and five-run seventh. In addition to Bell and Bottrell (3-for-4), Gavin Bougeois of ULL (3-for-5) and Montenegro (2-for-5) would finish with multi-hit games as the Cutters would collect 15 as a team.

Brady and the rest of the Cane Cutters continue their homestand this weekend with a pair of games against the Brazos Valley Bombers on Saturday and Sunday, both of which start at 7pm. The Saturday contest will feature our Dog Days of the Summer theme, where your canine friends can get into the park to enjoy the game alongside of you for just $3! All of the proceeds from the “Pooch Passes” will be donated to local veterinary clinics and animal shelters. Sunday’s game is our Dance Night, which will feature local dance studios and cheer teams providing in-game entertainment...if you or someone you know would like to sign up a team to perform and receive free tickets to the game, it’s not too late but hurry because spots are filling fast!
