Five Former Cane Cutters Selected in MLB Draft

June 8, 2018 – The Acadiana Cane Cutters had five former players selected in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft. Former Cane Cutters Hogan Harris, Hunter Feduccia, Dylan Hardy, Cobie Vance, and Hunter Speer were all selected by Major League Baseball Teams.

Left-Handed pitcher Hogan Harris was selected by the Oakland A’s in the 3rd round (pick 85). Harris just finished his junior season with University of Louisiana-Lafayette. For the Cajuns in the 2018 season, Harris pitched 58.1 innings, struck out 54, and ended the year with a 2.62 ERA. Harris spent one summer with the Cane Cutters and ended the season 1-0 with just under 3 strikeouts per inning pitched.

Catcher Hunter Feduccia was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 12th round (pick 374). Feduccia just finished his junior season with Louisiana State University. In the 2018 season, Feduccia had 146 at-bats and averaged .233. With those at-bats, he scored 22 times, had 34 hits, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 3 homeruns, and 31 RBIs. Before LSU, Feduccia was named to the 2017 NJCAA Division ll All- Region Team and voted 2016 & 2017 LSU-Eunice Defensive Player of the Year. During the 2016 summer, Feduccia helped the Cane Cutters reach the TLC Championship game.

Outfielder Dylan Hardy was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 13th round (pick 400). Hardy finished his junior season with the University of South Alabama. Hardy was a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection for the 2018 season. In the 154 games he has played in for the Jaguars, he has a .340 batting average, 23 doubles, 4 triples, 9 homeruns, 61 RBIs, 124 runs scored, 50 stolen bases, and a .416 on-base percentage. During the 2016 season for the Cane Cutters, Hardy had 32 hits, 10 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases.

Infielder Cobie Vance was selected by the Oakland A’s in the 18th round (pick 533).  In his 2018 campaign for the University of Alabama, he started all 56 games and averaged .293 at the plate. In those 56 games, he had 225 at-bats, 43 runs scored, 66 hits, 28 RBIs, 11 doubles, 1 triple, 6 homeruns, and 36 walks. During his time with the Cane Cutters (2016), he batted .303, had 44 hits, 22 RBIs, and 9 stolen bases.

Right- Handed Pitcher Hunter Speer, was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 25th round (pick 764). Speer just finished up his senior season with the Crusaders of William Carey University. In the 2018 season with the Crusaders, Speer ended the season with a 5.40 ERA, 95 innings pitched, and struck out 95. Speer spent two summers with the Cane Cutters. In 2016, he pitched 44 innings, and in those 44 innings, he struck out 29 and ended with a 4.5 ERA.
