Cane Cutters Streak Now at 8 Games

07/06/2018 10:51 PM -

Bryan, Tx. (July 6, 2018) - The Cane Cutters returned from the All-Star Break with a 4-3 victory over the Brazos Valley Bombers to keep their win streak going at 8 games.

The Cutters started the scoring early with a triple by Chandler Morris (Texas A&M) that scored Cole Taylor (Texas A&M), who reached base on a single earlier in the inning. Rhett McCall (Lamar) scored later in the inning to make the score 2-0. In the fifth inning with the score 3-2, Morris again drove in a run scoring Cole Secrest (Lamar) to tie the game at 3-3.

The Cutters pitching was also strong throughout the game. The Cutters held the Bombers scoreless for the last 7 innings using a combination of Evan Daigle (Northwestern St.), Sean Tweedy (Southern Miss), and Jimmy Dobrash (ULL) to close the door. The trio combined for 10 strikeouts in the game.

The game was tied until the Cutters broke through in the eighth inning to take the lead for good. Trey Harrington (SE Louisiana) scored McCall on a grounder down the first base line. The first baseman was not able to tag first and throw home in time to get the double play. The Cutters never looked back from there.

The Cutters play the Bombers again tomorrow night to finish the series.

The Cutters will be back at Fabacher Field again Sunday (7/8) against the Marshals.  It will be MLB Apparel Night! Anyone who wears MLB gear gets in at the discounted price of $5.
