Cane Cutters Extend Win Streak to Ten

07/08/2018 9:45 PM -

YOUNGSVILLE, La. (July 8, 2018)- The Acadiana Cane Cutters increased their win streak to ten games on their return to Fabacher Field after an away series in Bryan, Texas. They shutout the Texas Marshals 3-0 in the series opener.

Starting pitcher, Hayden Erbe (ULL), was named Powerade Player of the Game after a spectacular night on the mound. Erbe threw five scoreless innings, recorded nine strikeouts, and only allowed two hits. He now leads the league in strikeouts with 43 so far this season.

The Cane Cutters scored all three of their runs in the second inning, starting with a single from designated hitter, Rhett McCall (Lamar University). McCall proceeded to steal second and third during Nathan Gabryszwski’s (Lamar University) at-bat and totaled four stolen bases in the game. After a walk to Gabryszwski, Kyle Bayles (Mississippi State) hit an RBI single to score McCall. Gabryszwski and Bayles both scored on an RBI single off the bat of Connor Manola (SE Louisiana).

The Cutters also recorded some brilliant defensive plays against the Marshals. Bayles began the second inning with a Sports Center worthy diving catch in center field. Three Marshals runners were caught stealing, two of which were the result of some great rundowns from the Cane Cutters infielders.

The Cutters will be back at Fabacher Field again tomorrow (7/9) against the Marshals.  It will be Princess & Pirate Night! It is also Margarita Monday! Gates open at 6 PM and first pitch is at 7 PM for all home games.  To get weekly updates on the team and other fun theme nights coming up, please visit our website and subscribe to our newsletter.
