Acadiana Drops Opener To Brazos Valley

YOUNGSVILLE, La. (July 18, 2018)- In the first of a four-game home stand, the Acadiana Cane Cutters faced off against the Brazos Valley Bombers and lost the opener 9-1.

The only run scored by the Cane Cutters came in the seventh inning. The bases were loaded after a single and two walks. Third baseman Nathan Miranda (ULM) scored the run on a wild pitch during Cole Secrest’s (Lamar University) at-bat.

The Cutters’ first baseman, Nathan Gabryszwski (Lamar University), hit two off the wall doubles in the second and fifths innings and went three for four with a single in the sixth.

Tyler Booth (LSUE) started on the hill and threw four innings while striking out six batters. Jacob Norman (ULL) entered the game in relief of Booth to pitch 2.1 innings before letting Joseph Battaglia III (BRCC) take over to end the seventh. Battaglia managed a strike out and a groundout to get out of the jam and followed it up with a scoreless eighth. Alex Nelms (University of Southern Mississippi) was the closer, achieving a groundout and two fly outs in the top of the ninth.

The Cutters will be back at Fabacher Field again Thursday (7/19) against the Brazos Valley Bombers. It is Lafayette Little League Challenger Night! Come out and support Lafayette Little League!
