Cutters Beat Generals In Slugfest

YOUNGSVILLE, La. (July 20, 2018) - The Acadiana Cane Cutters began the weekend with a victory over the Victoria Generals by a score of 13-9.

Matthew Beck (LSU) started on the mound for the Cane Cutters. He pitched four innings, two of which were scoreless, before allowing Sean Tweedy (University of Southern Mississippi) to take over for the next three frames. Evan Daigle (Northwestern State) recorded the save for the Cutters.

The Cane Cutters fell behind in the first inning but exploded in the second inning to score eight runs. Chandler Morris (Texas A&M) and Nathan Gabryszwski (Lamar University) walked and Cole Taylor (Texas A&M) singled to load the bases for Mason Corbett (Texas A&M). Corbett’s two RBI single scored Morris and Gabryszwski. Next Alex Hannie (ULL), the designated hitter, reached first base on an error by the second baseman scoring Taylor. Trey Harrington (SE Louisiana) then singled to load the bases once more and Kyle Bayles (Mississippi State) was walked to score Corbett. Rhett McCall (Lamar University) followed with another RBI single that drove in Hannie. Later, a walk to Morris scored Harrington and a passed ball scored Bayles. The last run was scored on a sacrifice fly by Gabryszwski which brought in McCall.

The Cutters extended their lead in the third and fourth innings with four more runs and added an insurance run in the eighth.

Bayles was named the Powerade Player of the Game after going two for three with three RBIs.

The Cutters will be back at Fabacher Field again tomorrow (7/21) against the Victoria Generals. It is HR Derby Night!
