Cane Cutters Fall To Generals

07/24/2018 11:29 PM -

YOUNGSVILLE, La. (July 24, 2018)- The Acadiana Cane Cutters dropped the opener to the Victoria Generals 10-6 at Fabacher Field on Tuesday night.

The Cutters fell behind in the second inning. Rhett McCall (Lamar University) put the Cutters on the board in the third with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Trey Harrington (SE Louisiana) who had doubled to start off the inning. McCall reclaimed his league leading batting average at .375.

Chandler Morris (Texas A&M) and Nathan Gabryswzski (Lamar University) added two more runs in the fourth on an RBI single from Mason Corbett (Texas A&M) and a sacrifice fly by Alex Hannie (ULL). The Cutters attempted to rally by scoring two runs in the seventh and eighth but it didn’t prove enough to catch up to the Generals.

Morris saw a lot of action defensively at third base. He was involved in producing the first two outs of the fourth inning, the second of which developed into a double play with the help of Harrington to get the third out. Morris also performed a Sports Center worthy diving catch to end the top of the fifth.

Miguel Reyes (Hutchison Community College) took over in relief in the bottom of the second to end the inning and managed three more scoreless innings in the game. Joseph Battaglia III (BRCC) finished things off on the hill in the final two scoreless innings for the Cutters.

“I feel like my most important job is just throwing strikes and getting the out as soon as possible and efficiently and just trying to get my team back in the dugout as soon as possible,” commented Battaglia.

The Cutters will be back at Fabacher Field again Wednesday (7/25) against the Victoria Generals. It is Art Appreciation Night! Gates open at 6 PM and first pitch is at 7 PM for all home games. To get weekly updates on the team and other fun theme nights coming up, please visit our website and subscribe to our newsletter.
