Slugfest in Victoria to Open the Series

VICTORIA, Tx (August 1, 2018)- Riverside Stadium was the site of a major slugfest as the Acadiana Cane Cutters took the win from the Victoria Generals by a score of 20-15.

The Cutters kicked off the first inning with eight runs, sending 12 batters to the plate.  Chandler Morris (Texas A&M) and Nathan Gabryszwski (Lamar University) were walked with Mason Corbett (Texas A&M) on first and two outs in the inning to load the bases. Corbett put the Cutters on the board by scoring on a passed ball. Kyle Bayles (Mississippi State) singled and Cole Taylor (Texas A&M) was hit by a pitch to bring in Morris. Connor Manola (SE Louisiana) was walked to bring in Gabryszwski. Storme Cooper (University of Southern Mississippi) singled to score Bayles and Taylor which brought Corbett back up to the plate to also be hit by a pitch. Manola scored a run on a passed ball and was followed by Cooper and Corbett who were driven in with a double from Cole Secrest (Lamar University).

The Cutters continued to build their lead with two runs in the second inning. Bayles tacked on four more in the third with a grand slam home run. Corbett hit a double in the fourth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Morris for run number 15. The Cutters scored their last five runs in the fifth inning, including a solo homer from Preston Faulkner (SE Louisiana) for run number 20.

The Cutters will be back at Fabacher Field again Sunday (8/5) against the Texas Marshals. It will be Strikeout Cancer Night! The Cane Cutters will be wearing custom jerseys with the names of people who are battling or have battled cancer on them!
