VICTORIA, Tx. (August 2, 2018)- The Acadiana Cane Cutters were unable to sweep the Victoria Generals as they dropped the finale 7-6 at Riverside Stadium on Thursday night.

Miguel Reyes (Hutchinson Community College) started on the mound for the Cane Cutters, pitching five innings, three of which were scoreless. Joseph Battaglia III (BRCC) took over for two innings before Brice Armistead closed it off for the Cutters taking over in the bottom of the eighth.

The Cane Cutters scored four runs in the sixth inning. Kyle Bayles (Mississippi State) walked, Rhett McCall (Lamar University) singled, and Preston Faulkner (SE Louisiana) also walked to load the bases. Shortstop Trey Harrington (SE Louisiana) brought Bayles in with a sacrifice hit and Cole Taylor (Texas A&M) walked to reload the bases for Nathan Miranda (UL-Monroe) who hit an RBI double that brought in McCall and Faulkner. Taylor scored run number four on an error from the Generals center fielder.

The Cutters attempted to make a comeback in the ninth and scored two more runs to make it a one-run ballgame. Taylor was hit by a pitch to reach base and Cole Secrest (Lamar University) singled to bring up Mason Corbett (Texas A&M) who was also hit by a pitch to load the bases. McCall drove in Taylor and Secrest with a two out RBI double but the Cutters were not able to capitalize on the remaining runners.
