Cane Cutters Take Out League Leading Pump Jacks
The Cane Cutters came back in a big way tonight as they beat the TCL leaders East Texas Pump Jacks on the road with a score of 4-0, handing them only their second loss at home. The Pump Jacks are currently ranked 7th in all of collegiate summer wooden bat leagues by Perfect Game.
Sam Malchar, the pitcher from Abilene Christian University, gave up only four hits in eight innings, with six strikeouts. 
In the first through third innings, there were few hits, and no runs. Then in the 4th inning, Mitch Nau started the action with a double, followed by a single by Ladd Rhodes which brought Nau in, scoring the first run. In the top of the 7th inning, Gabe Woods leads off with a single, followed by Austin Roussel’s single to score Woods, bringing the score to 2-0.
The Pump Jacks Kalkowski gets a single in the bottom of the 7th, but Wall hits a foul getting Kalkowski out on a double play, and Santigate strikes out swinging for out 3. 
Mike Barba leads off in the top of the 8th, scoring with a home run. Nau hits another double, and advances to third on Wood’s single, but they are both left on base. Pump Jacks get Helmburg on with a walk, but Davis flies out to right field for out number 3, leaving him on base.
In the top of the 9th, Roussel is hit by a pitch and then steals second. Barba hits a single, scoring Roussel. Lee singles, advancing Barba to third, Nau walks, and Seal flies out for out number 3, bringing the score to 4-0.
The bottom of the 9th Sam Malchar retired and Merrick Ardoin came in, striking out Pellant and Kalkowski swinging, with out number two made when Williams hit to 2nd base and was thrown out at first.
The Cane Cutters return home tonight and are off until Tuesday for the All Star Break.  Nau, Seal, Rodriguez, Woods, Lee, Langston and Suit will head to Victoria Texas to play for the All Star South team on Monday, July 9.  The next home game will be Wednesday, July 11, and this Ladies’ Night  game will be broadcast on ESPN1420 AM, as will the following game on Thursday, July 12, our Thirsty Thursday with $1 Bud and Bud Lite beer all night.  There is lots of action in July at Fabacher Field, so follow us on Facebook and www.canecuttersbaseball.com
