Cane Cutters Faithful,

First of all, allow me to take the time to introduce myself. My name is Jacob Andrews and I was recently brought on as the new General Manager of the Acadiana Cane Cutters. Not only am I new to the baseball club, but also Southwest Louisiana. I have been here for about a month and it has already been a fantastic experience. The hospitality and the community around the Parish have certainly been welcoming. I look forward to making this my home.

I frequently get asked the question, “What, if anything, do you do during the off-season?” To be honest, starting in September and running through May, the off-season will be our busiest time in the office. The non-summer months are our time to prepare for the next season and there isn’t a moment to lose. We need to renew and cultivate sponsorship relationships, create budgets, devise and establish marketing plans, begin ticket sales, recruit players, and set business strategies for next summer. The off-season is a vital time for us to establish what will make the 2013 season of Acadiana Cane Cutters Baseball a success.

Here are some key things we have been working on so far this fall:

Brand Awareness: We are committed to making Acadiana Cane Cutters Baseball the place to be during the summer. We are investigating ways to make our brand more visible, recognizable, consistent, and impactful. This will include frequent community involvement, a remodeled website, interactive social media, and other activation techniques. Through these methods, we are working to build our fan base and grow the business of our team as well as the Texas Collegiate League.

Community: A key part of any small business is the relationship with the community. Not only do we want to provide high-quality summer entertainment, we also strive to be an engrained member in the fabric of Acadiana. Currently, we are working tirelessly with our current sponsors, neighbors, and fans to make this a seamless reality.

Season Tickets: The Cane Cutters are continuously working to build our season ticket holder numbers and establish one of the best fan bases in all of the Texas Collegiate League. This is always an off-season priority in sport.

Staffing: I come from a background rich in sport internship experiences. The Spring and Summer of 2013 will feature a revamped internship program that will offer students a one-of-a-kind opportunity to be exposed to, and manage, a variety of disciplines throughout our organization. We have made stops at the University of Louisiana and McNeese State, and are planning to visit Nicholls State, Louisiana State, and Texas A&M.

We are also avidly searching for an individual to be a part of our staff full-time as an Account Executive. For more information on this position click here.

These issues are just the tip of the iceberg. I expect there will be very positive news on all of these fronts during the course of the off-season. Stay up to date by following us on Twitter @CaneCuttersBB and visiting our Facebook page at Acadiana Cane Cutters Baseball.
