04/10/2013 10:33 AM -

The Cane Cutters add more local talent by signing three Southeastern University Lions on Wednesday.

The Acadiana Cane Cutters are primed to begin their third season of Texas Collegiate League Baseball at Fabacher Field on May 30. As the team continues to prepare for the 2013 season, Head Coach Lonny Landry announced the signing of a three Southeastern Louisiana University freshman to join fellow Lion upperclassman and returning Cane Cutter Gabe Woods this summer.

Louisiana native Kyle Cedotal will join the 2013 Cane Cutters’ roster as both an outfielder and spot starter. The freshman southpaw attended Denham Springs High School in Denham Springs, Louisiana where he starred, finishing with All-Metro, All-District, All-Parish, and All-State honors his senior year. This spring with Southeastern, Cedotal has earned a 4-4 record with 28 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched. SLU has also given the versatile youngster plenty of time to gain experience in the outfield. In each of his eight starts in the field, Cedotal has accounted for at least one base-knock and an overall average of .462 entering the week of April 8.

Redshirt freshman John Gremillion is poised be a staple arm in Coach Lonny Landry’s bullpen this summer. Gremillion attended St. Paul’s School in Covington, Louisiana where he exceled as a three-time All-District selection in both football and baseball. In 2013, the relief pitcher has amassed a 4.00 ERA in 9 frames, en route to closing the door for a couple of saves. In a tough four game stretch that included matchups against Ole Miss and BYU, Gremillion surrendered only one run in five and two-thirds innings while fanning six.

6’2” freshman Tate Scioneaux is already doing big things as a starting pitcher for Southeastern this spring. A recent graduate of Riverside Academy, Tate was an All-State performer who boasted a nearly nonexistent 0.55 ERA in high school. So far 2013, Scioneaux has shined on the mound. In 51.2 innings, he has earned a flawless 4-0 record, with 49 strikeouts and a solid 3.14 ERA. Over his eight total starts, the Lions’ hurler has accrued at least six strikeouts in five outings.

The Acadiana Cane Cutters will throw the first pitch of the 2013 Texas Collegiate League baseball season on Thursday, May 30, when they welcome the Brazos Valley Bombers for a 7:00 PM home showdown. Opening Night is sponsored by your locally owned and operated Sonic Drive-In locations in Acadiana. Fabacher Field is Louisiana’s only destination to catch the future stars of Major League Baseball.
