The Cane Cutters sign three LSU-Eunice standouts on Tuesday morning

Opening Night on Thursday, May 30, is closing in fast. The Cane Cutters’ Front Office has been hard at work to make this third season of collegiate league baseball in Acadiana the best one to date. On Tuesday morning, the Cutters’ brass announced the addition of three LSU-Eunice Bengals to their 2013 roster.

Sophomore righty Merrick Ardoin has been a solid bullpen arm for Coach Jeff Willis’ LSU-Eunice Bengals this spring and will return to Acadiana for his second summer at Fabacher Field. As a relief pitcher, Ardoin has shown the potential to be a mainstay contributor for the Cane Cutters’ staff again this summer. In 11 appearances and 12.1 innings of work this year, Ardoin has limited the opposition to 16 base hits, while striking out 12. Last summer, Ardoin threw 20.2 innings and sat down an impressive 28 batters on strikes for the Canes.

Lafayette native Kolby Green will also join the Canes from nearby LSU-E. Green attended Northside High where he graduated in 2012. In his first season of college ball, the Bengals’ staff decided to exercise some patience, tagging him with a redshirt designation this spring. Acadiana, on the other hand, is excited to have Green fresh and eager for some live-game action once the summer rolls around. The 6’2” right-hander should be poised to show he can perform well against some of the nation’s top college talent.

Adam Angelle signs with Acadiana as a sophomore outfielder from neighboring Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Angelle graduated from local Teurlings Catholic School in 2011. The Bengal outfielder has started 11 contests for LSU-E in 2013. To the plate, Angelle totes a solid .308 batting average with 3 RBIs and 15 runs scored. The sophomore has also proven to be a dynamic athlete on the basepaths. Midway through the 2013 season Angelle has already recorded 10 stolen bases.

The Acadiana Cane Cutters will square off against the Brazos Valley Bombers on Thursday, May 30 at Fabacher Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Opening Night is sponsored by your locally owned and operated Sonic Drive-In locations in Acadiana. The weather is heating up and so is the anticipation!
