Acadiana takes game three with Brazos Valley

07/13/2020 2:02 PM -

Bryan, Texas -- The Acadiana Cane Cutters avoided the sweep with a 4-1 victory over the Brazos Valley Bombers Sunday night at Travis Field.

Another strong pitching performance from the Cane Cutters held the Bombers to one run on eight hits and left eight Brazos Valley runners on base. Cam Barlow (UL-Monroe) earned the win after 5.2 innings of work, allowing only one run (earned) on seven hits and one walk. Hayden Johns (New Mexico State) continues to hold opponents scoreless after 2.1 innings with no walks, no hits, no runs, and a strikeout against the Bombers Sunday. Hunter Meche came in to close out the game in the ninth, allowing only one hit and striking out two.

Acadiana had a big night at the plate. Once again, the Cane Cutters got to work early as Ethan Lege (Delgado CC) and Champ Artigues (Southeastern) tallied the first two runs of the day on a two-RBI hit by Zavier Moore (Southern University). Will Veillon (BRCC) then added a massive insurance run with a solo rocket over left field in the top of the fourth, the first home run for the Cane Cutters this season. The Bombers scored their only run of the night in the bottom of the fourth, but Veillon wasn’t done yet. The sophomore walked to start the ninth inning, stole second on a dropped throw and then came around to score for Acadiana’s fourth run of the night.

The Cane Cutters now travel to Round Rock to face the HairyMen in a three-game set beginning Tuesday, July 14 before returning home to Fabacher to host Brazos Valley for another three this weekend. Friday, July 17 will be Front Line Hero’s Night presented by Danny Landry for District Attorney. All home games will begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN 1420 AM.
