Cane Cutters Beat the Sod Squad Handily in Amarillo

 Lafayette, La. – The Acadiana Cane Cutters get a big win in Amarillo as they defeat the Sod Squad 8-3. The Cane Cutters were able to dominate offensively getting 11 hits on the night and only allowing 3 runs as well. Acadiana holds on to second place in the TCL with a record of 15-13. The Cane Cutters will face the Amarillo Sod Squad again tomorrow night as they look to carry this momentum into the next game.

 

Acadiana was really able to be efficient on their 11 hits by scoring 8 runs against Amarillo. 7 different Cane Cutters were able to earn a run tonight in Amarillo. Matt Abshire (Panola College) had another productive night with 3 hits, 1 RBI, and 1 run earned on 4 at bats bringing his batting average to .600 on the season. Jerrett McDonald (DBU) was able to help the Cane Cutters offensively as well getting 2 hits, 2 RBIs, 1 double, and 1 run earned against the Sod Squad. Cole McConnell (Louisiana Tech) hit a triple in tonight’s game as well as 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Carson Jones (ULM) had a good night at the plate as well getting 2 hits with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. The Cane Cutters had a stellar offensive performance, and they will look to carry this over into tomorrow’s game as well.

 

The Cane Cutters were equally effective on the mound tonight only giving up 3 total runs against the Sod Squad. Marcus Mott (Temple College) pitched the majority of the game with 4 innings pitched. Mott only allowed 4 hits in those 4 innings and added 2 strikeouts on the night. Nick McAuliffe (UNO) pitched 3.2 innings and racked up 5 strikeouts against Amarillo. Jay Ward (UTSA) closed out the game pitching 1.1 innings and exiting the game with an ERA of 1.66. Acadiana’s strong pitching has been a great asset to the team in the second half of the season.

 

The Cane Cutters will face the Sod Squad again tomorrow in Amarillo, Texas. Acadiana will try to end their road trip on a high note before returning back home to Louisiana.
