Cane Cutters Clinch a Playoff Spot in the TCL

Lafayette, La. – The Acadiana Cane Cutters clinch a playoff spot in the TCL after their win tonight against the Baton Rouge Rougarou. The Cane Cutters dominated the Rougarou 15-3 tonight as they were able to earn a run for every hit (15) they recorded. Acadiana is still fighting for the number 3 seed in the TCL with the Brazos Valley Bombers in a tight race that could come down to the final two games of the season. Be sure to come out to watch your Cane Cutters in the final two regular season games, which will take place at home at Fabacher Field against the Amarillo Sod Squad. Tomorrow’s game against the Sod Squad will be Military Appreciation Night powered by Friends of Don Landry. All Military personnel and their families will get free admission to the game!

 

The Cane Cutters were extremely efficient and active at the plate tonight earning 15 hits and 15 runs against the Rougarou. Acadiana had 8 different players score a run in tonight’s game. Jerrett McDonald (DBU) had a phenomenal game hitting 2 home runs, earning 3 RBIs, and scoring 3 runs against the Rougarou. Ethan Lege (Delgado) continues his stellar 2021 season with 2 runs scored on 2 hits, a stolen base, and a double in tonight’s game. Jack Schell (Lamar University) and Austin Trahan (Nicholls State) each had a whopping 4 hits with 2 runs scored on the night. Trahan also added an RBI to the stats sheet. Carson Jones (ULM) hit a triple and was able to add a run scored and an RBI tonight. Cole McConnell (Louisiana Tech) stays hot against Baton Rouge with 2 hits for 2 runs and 1 RBI.

 

The Cane Cutters held the Rougarou to only 3 runs scored with another great defensive effort. Nick Hill (Nicholls State) was awarded the win pitching 4.2 innings and earning 3 strikeouts on the night. Patrick Lee (William Carey) pitched 2.1 innings with 1 strikeout, 2 hits allowed, and no runs allowed. Nick McAuliffe (UNO) also did not allow a single run pitching 2 innings and only allowing 1 hit with 1 strikeout as well. Acadiana will look to carry this momentum into tomorrow’s game at home against the Sod Squad. The Acadiana Cane Cutters will play again at home at Fabacher Field on July 31st to play against the Amarillo Sod Squad on Military Appreciation Night powered by Friends of Don Landry.
