A Late Inning Explosion Propels The Cane Cutters to a 7-6 Win Over The Victoria Generals and Series Sweep

Acadiana, LA | June 23, 2025

What started off as a slow game to end the week, quickly turned into an electric Sunday night battle that saw the Cane Cutters pull off an 8th inning, four-run comeback to sweep the series.

On the mound, both Colby Diaz of the Generals and Hayden Toal of the Cutters shut down the bats through the first four innings of play. But the Generals would strike first with extra basehits and timely hitting to go into the bottom of the 7th up 5-1.

But the Cane Cutters wouldn’t give in. A Christian Hallmark RBI single and Victoria error would put two runs on the board to cut the lead to two going into the eighth. Colton Harrison would deliver a sac fly, Isaiah Castaneda would score on an error by The Generals left fielder and Rigoberto Hernandez and Peyton Woods would deliver clutch RBI base hits to tie and take the lead.

Caleb Muffoletto would go 1 ⅓ innings pitched allowing two hits, one unearned runs and striking out two to set himself up for the win once Acadiana took the lead. Isaiah Castaneda would come in from right field to pitch in the ninth inning for the save where he would allow three walks but strikeout one and not allow a single hit or run for the win.

The win improves the Acadiana Cane Cutters to ten and seven on the season and have now won four straight, bouncing back from a four game losing streak. Acadiana looks to keep up their winning ways Tuesday night on June 24th in Baton Rouge for an in-division matchup with the Rougarou. Tune in on TCLTV to watch Cane Cutter baseball all season long.
