Lafayette, La. – With the delayed TCL season set to begin in just over a month, Cane Cutter fans can start to look forward to seeing their Cutters play at Fabacher Field for the first time in 2020. In the meantime, the Cane Cutters boosted their already strong pitching staff, signing local Acadiana natives Blake Marshall and Drew McDaniel, the team announced today.
Drew McDaniel, a four-year letter winner at Saint Thomas More Catholic High School in Lafayette, LA., will play a prominent role in the Cane Cutters pitching staff this season. Marshall was ranked the No. 106 prospect in the nation in 2019 according to Perfect Game. He was also the No. 3 prospect in Louisiana and the No. 1 pitcher in the state. During the shortened 2020 season as a freshman at Ole Miss, McDaniel saw minimal action pitching 3 innings and recording 2 strikeouts on the year. The signing of McDaniel will bring another strong arm into an already loaded Cutters pitching staff.
Blake Marshall lettered three years at Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville, La. before beginning his collegiate career at Hinds Community College (Raymond, Miss.), where he appeared in 10 games, totaling 10 innings. As a freshman he recorded the highest strikeout per nine inning total on the team with 13.06. After the shortened 2020 season he committed to ULL to continue his collegiate career with the Rajun Cajuns of Lafayette. Marshall will seek to improve on his recent success with the Cane Cutters during the summer season.
The Acadiana Cane Cutters will open the 2020 season at home on Monday, July 6 against the Brazos Valley Bombers at Fabacher Field. All home games will begin at 7:00pm and will be broadcast live on ESPN 1420 AM.
