Cane Cutters Continue Winning Ways, Defeat East Texas 4-2

06/20/2013 11:00 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters win their third straight road game over the East Texas Pump Jacks in Driller Park, 4-2.

The Cane Cutters have been a tough draw for opposing teams in recent games. Acadiana is in the midst of a strong 11-game stretch in which they have won 8 games. Following a June 19th double header sweep of the Texas Marshals, the Cane Cutters tallied another win on their road trip against the East Texas Pump Jacks in Driller Park Thursday night, 4-2, improving their overall season record to (9-10). The Cane Cutters will look to even their record at 10 wins and 10 losses on the season during their final game of the road trip Friday night against East Texas before returning home on Saturday, June 22nd for a two game series against the Texas Marshals. With continued success, the team will have a chance of qualifying for a playoff berth at the Texas Collegiate League All-Star break, during which the top two teams in the league receive automatic bids.

Thursday night’s victory came on the shoulders of excellent pitching from both Justin Sinibaldi of Nicholls State University and John Gremillion of Southeastern Louisiana University, as the two combined for a two run, nine inning win-save performance, and a big 4th inning for the Cane Cutters, plating 3 runs on an error and two base hits. Nick Dawson from the University of Southern Mississippi had a great night at the plate, getting 1 hit in 3 at bats and walking once while driving in 2 runs for the Cane Cutters. Texas A&M product Mitchell Nau and Alabama’s Chance Vincent each racked up 2 hits in the win, as both continue to see the ball well going into mid-season play. Sinibaldi pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up just 1 unearned run on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 batters and earning the win. Gremillion went the remaining 2 2/3 innings, also giving up 1 unearned run on 2 hits and striking out a batter.
