Cane Cutters Back on Winning Track

The Cane Cutters squared off against the Woodlands Strykers for the series finale at Fabacher Field on Friday night.

The stars were out in abundance for Hollywood Night hosted by the Hampton Inn & Suites Lafayette - Official Hotel of the Acadiana Cane Cutters - at Fabacher Field. The much-anticipated Media Challenge kicked off the evening as celebrity news anchors and radio personalities from KLFY, 103.7 the Game, KATC, FOX 15, and ESPN 1420, took their cuts against the hard-throwing University of Louisiana Lafayette Softball Team.

After an eventful pre-game, the action at Fabacher Field between the Acadiana Cane Cutters and the Woodlands Strykers was in full swing. Both teams were neck and neck for four and two-thirds innings before Southern Mississippi’s Connor Barron hit a two-run homerun to deep right center giving him his second homer of the season. Also contributing offensively was Jace Statum out of Texas A&M. Statum knocked in two RBIs on a bases loaded single to give the Cane Cutters a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the eighth. The Canes would go on the win by that same margin.

UL Lafayette product, Nick Zaunbrecher was given the nod on the mound in tonight’s matchup. The Ragin’ Cajun shined, throwing a complete game shutout, while striking out five and keeping the Strykers scoreless.

Acadiana will head west to McKinney to take on the Texas Marshals before returning home to face the league-leading Brazos Valley Bombers for a two-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday. Coke Wednesday will be back at Fabacher Field on July 17. ALL kids get in FREE with an empty Coca-Cola can or bottle. That night’s live music will be performed Lafayette’s own star of NBC’s The Voice Mackenzie Bourg in the stadium concourse pregame.
