UL Starter Captures Warstic TCL Pitcher of the Week

07/15/2013 3:17 PM -

Acadiana starting pitcher Nick Zaunbrecher takes home the TCL's weekly honor for July 11 through 15.

The proof is in the pudding – the Acadiana Cane Cutters have made a run in the Texas Collegiate League since the end of the first half, winning 9 of their last 10 and 7 of 8 since the beginning of the second half. Last week’s Warstic TCL Player of the Week duo from Acadiana, Logan Taylor and Victor Sanchez, each made big impacts for the club, as the Cane Cutters won all six of their games before the All-Star Break. Now after a shortened, 4-game week, the Cane Cutters can proudly boast their third Player of the Week selection in two weeks: University of Louisiana at Lafayette starting pitcher Nick Zaunbrecher.

Zaunbrecher turned in a tremendous performance on Friday against the Woodlands, shutting out the Strykers in a complete game win. The hard-throwing starter had the Strykers swinging at air all night, giving up just 4 hits over the 9 innings, while striking out 5. The outing came at the back end of an already stellar week for Cane Cutters’ pitching. Not to be outdone, the UL right-hander did his part to follow up fantastic outings from fellow Acadiana starters Justin Sinibaldi, Kyle Cedotal, and Victor Sanchez. The win improved Zaunbrecher’s record to 1-2 and his ERA to 3.80.
