Fabacher Field

The Acadiana Cane Cutters march back to Fabacher Field still atop the Texas Collegiate League second half standings despite dropping their last series in McKinney versus the Texas Marshals. The Cutters, who have been among the best in the nation since the calendar flipped to July, strive to get back on to their regular winning ways by hosting the Woodlands Strykers to Fabacher Field on Saturday and Sunday night.

University of Alabama utility infielder Chance Vincent strung together a very productive series during Acadiana’s recent visit to north Texas. The freshman went 5-for-7 overall, accounting for two extra base hits, two walks, a run scored, and stolen base. Pitcher Nick Zaunbrecher earned a quality start against the Marshals on Thursday night, going seven innings strong while only allowing a mere three earned. The University of Louisiana Lafayette product kept the Canes in striking distance, yet for the first time in a while, a regularly potent offense did not take charge to pick him up.

The Woodlands Strykers come into town as an emerging presence in the Texas Collegiate League standings. Despite having just 18 wins on the season, this Strykers’ squad has caught fire. The team has earned eight wins in their last ten contests and is coming off a convincing sweep of the East Texas Pump Jacks. The Woodlands offense exploded, putting up 25 runs on 29 hits in just two nights of work.  Rice University outfielder Brian Smith lead the assault. Smith accounted for six hits in nine at bats, belting a home run while adding four RBIs, and five runs scored to his line. The Woodlands’ cleanup man Dirk Masters didn’t shy away from the action either. He would go 3-for-7 with two RBIs, four runs scored, and a bomb of his own.

Saturday and Sunday’s matchup with the Woodlands Strykers is primed to be a set between the TCL’s two hottest ball clubs. Saturday is Acadiana Superheroes Night at Fabacher Field. All area emergency responders are encouraged to contact the Cane Cutters’ front office for FREE tickets for them and their family courtesy of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Then, on Sunday, join the community for a special Faith & Family Night at the park. The Trinity Bible Church Worship Team will be performing a special concert before the game beginning shortly after the gates open at 6:00p!
