POWERADE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

After Tuesday and Wednesday’s games were called at Fabacher Field due to weather conditions, the team headed on a road trip to take on the Victoria Generals and Woodlands Strykers.  The two game series against the Victoria Generals started on Thursday and was postponed to a doubleheader Friday where the Generals took both games by one point.  The team then headed to the Woodlands to take on the Strykers in another two game series and again the first game of the series was canceled due to weather and the teams played a doubleheader on Sunday.  The Strykers swept the double header with game one ending 6-2 and game two ending 7-5.  The team returns to Fabacher Field tomorrow night against the Victoria Generals.  

The Powerade Player of the Week was awarded to outfielder James Ziegler from Chandler-Gilbert Community College.  Despite the 6-2 loss against the Strykers in game one, Ziegler was 2-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run and got his first homerun of the season.  In game two, he was 1-4 with 2 RBI’s, 1 run and recorded another homerun.  Over the away game stretch, Ziegler was 4-9 with a .444 batting average, a .444 on base percentage, and a 1.111 slugging average.  Through 23 games with the Cane Cutters, Ziegler has a .267 batting average, 12 RBI’s, 20 hits and 13 runs.  

Scott Szush, from Southeastern University, was selected as this weeks Powerade Pitcher of the Week.  In the June 27th loss to the Generals, Szush pitched 3.1 innings, allowing 0 runs and 2 hits.  He recorded a 0.00 ERA, a .167 opponents batting average, a .167 slugging percentage, and a .231 on base percentage.  Through 4 games played for the Cane Cutters, Szush has pitched 11.1 innings; recorded 8 strikeouts and has allowed 4 hits.

The Cane Cutters return to Fabacher Field tomorrow night in a two game series against the Victoria Generals. Tomorrow the Cane Cutters will host a Media Night for all local media outlets to come check out the Cane Cutters, interview players and experience a night at Fabacher Field.  Wednesday night we will host our 4th of July celebration with fun and games that include a pie eating contest, S’mores station, and much more. In addition to Fourth of July night, Lafayette Science Museum is sponsoring a Science Night where Big Boy Toys will be performing an RC Flight Demo and the Science Museum will have a telescope for fans to use.
