Cane Cutters Win in High Fashion

07/02/2015 8:15 AM -

Your Cane Cutters pulled out a close 8-6 win to move to 15-10, a day after clinching their first ever home playoff game. The Pump Jacks now sit at 10-13 and have now lost 3 games in a row.

In a game marred by defensive sloppiness with 6 total errors and an abundant use of pitchers with 10 total, the Cane Cutters used a big 4th inning and late timely hitting to pick up the win and sweep the two game set.

The Cane Cutters got the ball rolling early in the 1st inning with a lead off double by Zak Kutsuils (Notre Dame), he would later score on a single by Taylor Braley (Southern Mississippi).

The Cane Cutters struck it big in the 3rd inning with another lead of hit by Zak Kutsuils (Notre Dame), along with a stolen base. Daniel Keating (Southern Mississippi) would then come up and reach second by one of many errors from the 3rd baseman. Taylor Braley (Southern Mississippi) would then add in a walk. Zak Kutsuils (Notre Dame) and Daniel Keating (Southern Mississippi) would eventually score during Conner Short’ (University of Alabama) at bat on the second error of the inning by the 3rd baseman. The error parade continued during Kyle Knauth’ (Nicholls State) at bat as he reached 1st base from the third error of the inning from the 3rd baseman and scored Taylor Braley (Southern Mississippi) in the process. Braedon Barret also added a sacrifice fly to score Conner Short (University of Alabama) and cap off the four run inning and lead the game 5-0.

The Pump Jacks would then come back with their own big inning in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game up a 5 runs apiece.

In the 6th inning the Pump Jacks had 2 men on when there was a stoppage of play for nearly 20 minutes due to a bank of lights in the outfield going out. Once play resumed the pitcher Alec Sanchez would load the bases with a hit batsman, but was able get out of the jam unscathed.

In the top of the 8th inning with the Cane Cutters only leading by a score of 7-6 they would then put up a much needed insurance run on Zak Kutsuils’ (Notre Dame) third hit of the night followed by an RBI triple from Daniel Keating (Southern Mississippi).

Joey Cresta would then come in for the bottom of the 9th and slam the door shut with a quick and painless 1,2,3 inning.

The Cane Cutters will be back in action tomorrow night when they travel to face the Woodlands Strykers as they open up another 2 game set.
