The Cane Cutters continue their winning ways against the East Texas Pumpjacks in a 14-8 victory. The Cane Cutters move to 13-9 as the Pumpjacks fall to 11-11.

 

Scott Szush (Southeastern) got the start for the Cane Cutters. It was a rough start for Scott as the Pumpjacks were able to score 5 runs in the first 2 innings. He would get back into the game and pitch well the rest of the way. Szush pitched 5 innings, allowing 9 hits and 5 runs with 6 strikeouts.

 

The Cane Cutters trailing 5-0 started to hit and were able to put up 3 runs in the bottom of the third inning.

 

It did not stop their as 4 more runs came across to score in the bottom of the fourth. Jalen Haskins (Pearl River Community College) would draw a leadoff walk. Haskins went 2-3 o the night with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Then Haskins would come in to score as Zac Kutsulis (Notre Dame) would reach on a walk. Later in the inning Kyle Knauth (Nicholls State) would single to score Chance Vincent. Vincent was 3-4 with 2 RBIs. 2 more runs would come across in the inning to make the score 7-5 Cane Cutters.

 

Leading 8-7, as the Pumpjacks had rallied, your Cane Cutters scored 6 runs in the bottom of the seventh. The main reason for the big inning can be credited to the 3 run homerun by Kyle Knauth over the right field wall.

 

The Cane Cutters would give up 1 run but hold on to win 14-8.

 

Tonight was Faith and Family night at Fabacher Field with part of the proceeds going to the Lafayette shooting relief fund. There are exciting event coming to Fabacher Field. Our last baseball camp of the summer is July 30th-31st. Cane Cutter players will be on hand to teach your child the fundamentals of baseball and to have a great time. This Friday is the 9 Inning Vacation present by Hampton Inn and Suites. Prizes will be given away including a 4 day 3 night stay in a Hampton property in Destin Florida. So come out to Fabacher Field to feel the Hamptonality.
