Cane Cutters Add Three Southern Miss Freshmen to 2016 Squad

The 2016 Acadiana Cane Cutters will be adding Southern Miss INF Matthew Guidry along with J.C. Keys and Walker Powell who will both be on the hill this season. 

Guidry, a freshman at Southern Mississippi and teammate of J.C. Keys in both high school and college, won the 6A state championship in 2014 with Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. As a senior, Guidry posted a .425 batting average and totaled 48 hits and 31 runs on 113 at bat with 24 RBIs. Guidry is studying political science.

Keys, a freshman at Southern Mississippi and teammate of Matthew Guidry in both high school and college, won the 6A state championship in 2014 with Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. As a senior, Keys boasted a 10-2 record with a 1.64 ERA in 13 appearances, threw seven complete games and three no-hitters. He also played football at Oak Grove High School for three years. Keys is studying Business Management.

Powell, a freshman pitcher from Fayetteville High School in Fayetteville, Arkansas, only pitched during his junior year. In his junior year, he boasted a 2-0 record with a 2.42 ERA. In his 14 games as a senior, Powell had a batting average of .226 with seven hits and four runs on 31 at bat. Powell is studying Business Administration.

The Cane Cutters are hoping these three Golden Eagles can make it a golden year for the team this season.
