Cane Cutters Outlast Strykers

The Cane Cutters (5-4) overcame a five run deficit to win their first game played against the Woodlands Strykers (3-6) at Strykers Stadium.  The Cane Cutters won their third game in a row while the Strykers are on a three game slide.

The Cane Cutters opened the game with one run in the first on a Mitchell Nau single that scored Isaac Rodriguez.  The Strykers answered with one run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one.  In the bottom of the second inning, the Strykers put up five runs on four hits and one error to go ahead.  The Cane Cutters were able to put four runs on the board in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to one.  In the following inning, the Cane Cutters went ahead for good on an Andrew Brown double that scored Isaac Rodriguez.  By the end of the sixth inning, they had put up four runs on four hits to go ahead by the score of 9-6.  The Cane Cutters tacked on three more runs in the ninth inning to put the game out of reach.  The Strykers tried to fight back in the bottom of the ninth, but scored only three runs leaving them short.

Offensively, the Cane Cutters were led by Rodriguez (2-5, 3 runs, 3 RBIs, 1 BB), Nau (3-6, 1 run, 2 RBIs), Brown (1-3, 1 2B, 2 runs, 2 RBIs), Alex Marse (2-4, 1 run, 1 RBI), and Braxton Lee (3-5, 3 runs).

Sam Malchar (0-1) started his second game of the year for the Cane Cutters pitching five innings, giving up six runs (four earned), striking out four, and walking three.  Kelby Langston (1-0) came in relief for Malchar in his fourth appearance of the season and got his first win of the season.  He pitched three innings, giving up one hit, walking one, and striking out two.  Ryan Bergeron finished off the game for the Cane Cutters pitching the ninth inning making his second appearance of the season.

The Cane Cutters win the first game of the two-game series against the Strykers and will play game two tomorrow night at 7:05 pm at Strykers Stadium.  They will look to sweep the two-game series before heading into their day off on Wednesday, and they return to Fabacher Field Thursday and Friday to take on the East Texas Pumpjacks, who are leading the TCL.  So come on out for Thirsty Thursday ($1 Bud and Bud Lite) and Fiery Friday (sponsored by C&G Boats, Inc.) and support your Cane Cutters!
