Cane Cutters Sweep Two-Game Series against Marshals

           The Cane Cutters got off to a good start and never looked back for the second night in a row against the Marshals.  The Cane Cutters knocked home ten runs on fourteen hits to win their second game in a row.

            The Cane Cutters wasted no time in getting the first runs on the board when they scored three in the top of the first inning.  Gabe Woods drove in the first two runs of the game when he singled scoring Mitchell Nau and Andrew Brown who had gotten on base by the way of a walk and a single, respectively.  Ladd Rhodes drove in Adam Seal for the third run of the inning with a single making the score 3-0 at the end of the first inning.

            The Cane Cutters added three more runs in the top of the second inning.  Braxton Lee walked in his first plate appearance of the game.  He stole second and then advanced to third base on an error by the catcher.  Isaac Rodriguez came up and delivered a single that plated Lee.  Rodriguez was brought home by Brown and Barba later scored by the way of an error by the shortstop putting the Cane Cutters up 6-0 after the top of the second inning.

            The Marshals were able to get back two of the runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  KJ Alexander was able to get on base by the way of an error and come around to score.  RJ Talamantes also got on base by a walk and came around to score later on in the inning making the score at the end of four 6-2 in favor of the Cane Cutters.

            The Marshals added another run to the board in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Wes Jones singled to start off the inning.  He advanced to second on a passed ball and then advanced to third on a ground out to the shortstop.  During the next at bat, he was able to score by the way of a passed ball making the score 6-3 in favor of the Cane Cutters.

            In the top of the sixth inning, the Cane Cutters added four more runs to put the game out of reach.  The first three batters all singled to load the bases.  Nau came up next and grouded out to the shortstop to drive in a run.  Brown came up next and hit into a fielder’s choice to score Barba.  Seal was the next batter and drove in Rodriguez.  Woods then drove in Brown completing the four run inning for the Cane Cutters making the score 10-3.

            The Marshals tried to make a comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning but came up short.  They were able to bring home three runs in the inning by the way of a couple of wild pitches and a home run making the final score 10-6 in favor of the Cane Cutters.

            The Cane Cutters were led offensively by Barba and Woods.  Barba went 3-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 walk.  Woods went 2-5 with 3 RBIs.  Rodriguez and Rhodes also chipped in with two hits each.  Rodriguez went 2-5 with 2 runs scored, 1 RBI and 1 walk and Rhodes went 2-5 with 1 RBI.  Each Cane Cutter that came up to bat got at least one hit on the night.  Nau and Woods were each able to extend their hitting streaks with Nau at eleven games and Woods at seven games.  Rodriguez also has a five game hitting streak.

            Cody Tillotson started his second game of the season receiving the no decision.  He pitched four and one-third innings giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits, walking three and striking out one.  Ben Suit came in relief earning the win.  He pitched three and two-thirds innings giving up two hits, no runs, walking one and striking out three.  That put his record at 1-1 on the season.

            The Cane Cutters are now 10-7 on the season and are tied for third place in the TCL with the Victoria Generals who they will have a two-game series with on Saturday and Sunday.  The Marshals fell to 2-15.  The Cane Cutters end their six-game road trip with a 4-2 record and will look forward to returning home.  They play the Victoria Generals on Saturday and Sunday at Fabacher Field.  Come out to the ballpark for Surprise Saturday, with $2 Bud and Bud Lite and $1 Cokes,  and Slippery Sunday with a free waterslide from 6:00 to 7:00 to support your Acadiana Cane Cutters.
