Cane Cutters Lose a Tight Game against Aces
The Cane Cutters returned the field after having a day off on July 4. The Cane Cutters fought hard the entire game against the Alexandria Aces but were not able to pull out the win. The Cane Cutters hoped to end their five-game home stretch with a win.
The Cane Cutters got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Isaac Rodriguez singled in his first plate appearance of the game. Mitchell Nau came up next and hit a double that scored Rodriguez. This put the Cane Cutters up 1-0. Nau and Rodriguez played their first game since getting selected to play in the All-Star game and they proved why they deserved that selection.
The Aces answered right back in the top of the second inning. The first three batters of the inning all got on base to load the bases. Rene Moreda singled as the next batter to bring home two runs giving the Aces the 2-1 lead.
The Aces added another run to their lead in the top of the fifth inning. Garren Palmer singled to start off the inning. Two batters later, Stryker Brown singled advancing Palmer to third base with only one out. The next batter, Jami Rachal, hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Palmer. This run game the Aces a 3-1 lead.
The next two innings went by with no hits and no runs for either team leaving the Cane Cutters only two innings to make a comeback. The bottom of the eighth inning came and the Cane Cutters were able to answer. Mike Barba singled putting him on base with one out. Rodriguez was up next and got to first on an error by the first baseman which also allowed Barba to advance all the way to third base. Andrew Brown came up two batters later and was able to get on base with an error by the shortstop which also scored Barba from third. This cut the lead to 3-2.
The Cane Cutters had one last inning to complete the comeback. Tyler Kamtz singled to start off the bottom of the ninth inning. Kamtz advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Austin Roussel got on base with a walk. The Cane Cutters now had a runner on first and second base and with no outs in the inning. The Aces were able to hold on for the last three outs getting the 3-2 win.
The Cane Cutters had five hits on the game. Nau went 1-3 with 1 double. He had one RBI and one walk. Brown also had an RBI in the game which gave him 23 RBIs for the season which leads the TCL. Barba and Rodriguez each had a run scored in the game.
The Cane Cutters got a good start out of Sean Kennel. He started his sixth game of the season and pitched his third complete game of the season which leads the TCL. He pitched nine innings giving up three earned runs on seven hits and one walk. His record is now 1-5 on the season.
The Cane Cutters now have a record of 15-15 on the season. The Aces upped their record to 13-18 on the season. The Cane Cutters ended their five-game home stretch going 3-2. The Cane Cutters will now travel to play the Brazos Valley Bombers on Friday and then the league leading East Texas Pump Jacks on Saturday for the last game of the first half of the season. The TCL All-Star Game is on Monday, July 9 and then the second half of the season will start on Tuesday. The Cane Cutters will return to Fabacher Field on Wednesday, July 11 which is Ladies Night. This game will start off a five-game home stretch which will last until Monday, July 16.
