Cane Cutters Announce New Players

07/16/2012 12:10 PM -

The Acadiana Cane Cutters are pleased to announce some mid-season additions to the roster.

Brett Thornell is a returning All Star Cane Cutter from our inaugural season.  He is an infielder who bats left and throws right, and played shortstop for the Cane Cutters last year.  Brett comes to us from McLennan Community College, and he will be heading to Stephen F.  Austin this coming year.

Also joining the Cane Cutters are Tanner Vandevere, and infielder from Meridian Community College and  Dale Bradly Day, a right handed pitcher from Northwood University.

The Cane Cutters couldn't hold on against the Victoria Generals Sunday night.  The Generals came out swinging in the first inning, as they scored 2 runs on 3 hits by Richard, Klonowski, and Kruse.  Two other Generals got on base with a walk and hit by pitch, and they ended the inning leaving three men on base.

In the bottom of the first Isaac Rodriguez hit the high point with a home run, but none of his teammates could keep it going.  The Cane Cutters settled in, and allowed no more runs for several innings.  In the 7th inning, Roussel walked, and new player Tanner Vandervere hit a single.  By the end of the inning, the Cane Cutters had made two runs as Tyler Kamtz bats into a fielders choice, and Austin Roussel scores.   Tanner Vandervere scores in the inning as well, and the Cane Cutters now lead 2-3, with the and left two men on.

In the 9th inning Ardoin came in to relieve Langston at pitcher, and the Generals bats woke up.  Mangum, Richard, Klonowski, and Kruse each came up to bat and got a base hit, scoring two runs.  Richardson came in to close, and hit Vidrine to put him on, then Tierney hit a single, scoring two more.  Richardson was then able to strike out the last two batters to retire the side.

In the bottom of the 9th, Braxton Lee hit a single, but his teammates couldn't keep the rally going, and the game ended with a score of 6-3 Generals.

Monday, July 16 is MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT at Fabacher Field, and the Cane Cutters will take on the Generals again.  All Military, past and present with a military ID, will gain admission for $2 for themselves, their spouse and their children. It is also Coke Monday, so all children aged 10 and under can get into Fabacher free with an empty can of Coke. There will be Fireworks as well, so please join us as we honor our military tonight at 7:00 pm!
