Cane Cutters Win One and have Second Game Called

07/25/2012 6:47 AM -

Baseball is a very strange game in which you never know what’s going to happen next where luck is king. Tonight's double-header was no exception. The first game started off quietly as the Bombers went three up, three down while Mike Barba earned the Cane Cutters the first hit of the game, however he was caught stealing. The second inning again exemplified the skill of the Cane Cutter defense as the Bombers once again were shut down. When it came time for Mitchell Nau to take the plate, he started it off with a nice single and would later be driven in by Andrew Brown. The inning would soon end after a double play caught both Tyler Kamtz and Andrew Brown, bringing us to the top to the third.

The Bombers kicked it off with a double by Bobby Butvin who would later score along with Nick Smelser and Quentin Urban making the score Cane Cutters one; Bombers three. During the third the Cane Cutters saw a man left on base with no hits. However, Acadiana enacted a comeback after Andrew Brown and Alex Marse each brought in a run in the fourth tying up the game at three. During the fifth inning the Bombers earned a single after a hit by Quentin Urban. The Cane Cutters had three hits, but three men left on base.

The next inning sealed the win for the Cane Cutters. After the Bombers once again only had one hit, the Cane Cutters answered back with two hits and two runs leading for second time in the game since the second inning. Then they soon added insurance to their lead and that would be the end of it. The Cane Cutters would go on to win 5 to 3.

The next game would soon turn into one of the most unexpected ends to any game. The first inning started normal enough along with the next two innings. Brett Thornell was the first to earn a hit in the game, but he would end up being left on base. The second was also pretty quiet only seeing two hits, both from the Cane Cutter club. The third saw the Bombers earn one hit and leave two men on base while the Cane Cutters would have no hits, three walks and two men left on base after Braxton Lee was caught stealing. The fourth inning plagued the Cane Cutter defense with the most unfortunate occurrences such as lucky bounces and balls that were hit just over the reach of the Cane Cutters. After making the score 8-0, the umpired called the game after tossing both coaches, and will be finished on a later date so keep a sharp eye on the website to find out when that day comes.

The Cane Cutters will move on from this and look forward to playing the East Texas Pump Jacks tomorrow evening, at 7 p.m.  Join us in celebration Ladies Night, with margaritas and wine specials for $2.  So make sure you stop by and take advantage of this great offer and as a treat, go ahead, sit back, relax and enjoy some Acadiana Cane Cutter baseball.    Friday night will be Warren Morris night at the park, and Warren Morris will be there to throw out the first pitch and be on hand for some autographs.  Warren Morris played for LSU and in the 1996 College World Series, he hit the game winning home run in the bottom of the 9th inning.  He also played for the Olympic baseball team, and how appropriate that he would come to join us on the opening night of the Olympics ceremony!  So come watch a legend, and get his autograph!  We will have fireworks again, sponsored  by C&G Boats.
