Cane Cutters Land Local Product Dupuis, Sign Deemes and Statum03/21/2013 8:03 AM -
Head Coach Lonny Landry continues to make moves towards Opening Night on May 30. March means university baseball is well underway and Texas Collegiate League baseball is right around the corner. The Acadiana Cane Cutters are leaving no stone unturned in preparation for Opening Night on May 30, a mere two months away. As the front office gets ready for this summer, Head Coach Lonny Landry inked three more recruits as he continues to construct the 2013 roster. Texas A&M junior outfielder Jace Statum is looking forward to being a key part of the Cutters come May. So far in 2013, Statum is sporting a healthy .273 batting average, with 10 runs scored, 6 runs plated, and 2 stolen bases. Moreover, Statum is doing his fair share of getting on, reaching base at a .412 clip on the season. As proficient as Statum has been at putting his Ags in a position to score, he’s been doing as much to keep the opposition off the board, routinely covering a vast amount of real estate in Aggieland. Local product Reno Dupuis from Carencro will join the Canes fresh out of LSU-Shreveport this summer. As you may recall, the right-handed freshman hurler graduated from nearby Teurlings Catholic School in 2012. Dupuis has been called to the mound 6 times for the Pilots this spring. He currently holds a respectable 4.26 ERA with 3 punch outs on the year. Coach Landry and the Cane Cutters’ brass are excited to see what the neighborhood youngster can do when he returns to Acadiana. Chalmette, Louisiana native and Pearl River Community College sophomore Ryan Deemes will join the cache of Acadiana arms this summer. It didn’t take long for Deemes to get in the mix while at PRCC. As a freshman, Deemes saw 45 innings and stroked 32 strikeouts to his ledger in 2012. Early in 2013, Deemes has accounted for 1 win over 16.2 innings of work in 5 appearances.
