Acadiana blows apart Victoria in home opener and improves to 4-1 on the year

This game was a story of very streaky runs for both teams. Both teams got their runs in bunches and went on very long innings where they had hitting streaks.Victoria struck first quickly after an RBI single from Riley Bender drove in Anthony Avalos, who was walked earlier in the inning to make it 1-0 Generals. Then, in the top of the second after the bases were loaded thanks to two singles and a walk, a sacrifice fly from Brock Knoerr made the score 2-0 Victoria. The very next batter, James Benjamin, hit an RBI single into left field to drive in another run and extend the Victoria lead to 3-0. Continuing in the top of the second, after once again loading the bases for the Generals, starting pitcher Trent Hillen hit batter Jacob Sanchez to walk in another run and make the score 4-0 Victoria.

 
Acadiana responded in the bottom of the second after the Cane Cutters loaded the bases. Jake LaRocca hit an RBI single to put Acadiana on the board and make the score 4-1 Victoria. Next up, Bennett Mittelsteadt reached on a fielder's choice which allowed for another runner for Acadiana to score and made it 4-2 Generals. Acadiana continued to hit well as Austin Mills hit an RBI single down the first base line which made the score 4-3 Generals. An attempted throw out at second allowed Bennett Mittelsteadt to come home and score to tie the game 4-4 after the bottom of the second inning.  Caleb Muffoletto came in to relieve Trent Hillen to start the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the third, the Cane Cutters would load the bases after 2 walks and a single. Then, the Generals changed pitchers as Blane Zeplin relieved Jonathan Valdez to face Reid Snider. After that, the Cane Cutters would explode for an 8-run bottom of the third which made the score 12-4 going into the 4th.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Acadiana would get another run thanks to an RBI double from Bennett Mittelsteadt which made the score 13-4. The Cane Cutters would get another due to a sacrifice groundout by Ashton Quiller which extended the lead to 14-4. In the bottom of the seventh, the cane cutters would add 1 run thanks to a sacrifice fly from Jake LaRocca which made the score 15-4. Victoria would get back on the board in the top of the eighth following a sacrifice fly from Ryan Bender which made it 15-5 Acadiana. The Cane Cutters would finish out the rest of the game and get their first home win with the final score being 15-5. The winning pitcher was Caleb Muffoletto for the Cane Cutters and the losing pitcher was Jonathan Valdez for the Generals.The Acadiana Cane Cutters will return to Fabacher Field to play game 2 of the series with the visiting Victoria Generals (2-2) on June 5. The game will begin at 7:05 PM CT and can be watched on TCL TV.
